Another Pile of Pictures

Looks like it's catch up time yet again. Better late than never, right?

Well, we had a very nice Thanksgiving and Christmas. Business was slow during the holidays...par for the course for most home improvement contractors so it would seem. Christmas morning we got to share a video phone call with my family, which was really special. Not nearly the same as being there, but so much better than not seeing that side of the family at all.

The Norwich Police Department contacted Jeremy during December, six months after he had last heard from them, and he started some of the remaining steps in the hiring process. We had both given up on the possibility and were totally at peace with forgetting about being a cop and pursuing our business, so it was a suprise to say the least. Within the last week of potentially getting hired, he got a letter saying he had not been selected. It was a tough piece of news, and left us very confused why God had brought up that possibility and made it seem like it was almost a certainty, only to close the door at the last minute. We may never understand all the reasons why, but we have learned from a friend on city council that city budget is stuggeling right now and layoffs may be eminent, and the newest guy in the department will be the first to go.

The very same day we got that news, we also learned that Minter #4 is on the way, due mid September. That was quite a shock, definitely not how we would have planned it, but God must have a special plan for this little one that just couldn't wait. Four kids so close together has left my body pretty depleated, so this first trimester has found me frequently morning sick and just plain exhausted. I've been trying hard to keep up with a good diet and the necessary supplements, and that has helped some. There's a lot of ground to make up for yet though.

The kids are growing SO much, changing into different little people right before our eyes. On an almost daily basis Jeremy and I marvel and the new things they can say, do, and understand.

Reuben is turning into a real kid, leaving behind the toddler phase forever. He's becoming a really good helper, loves to play with and watch out for his little sisters (though sometimes we wonder if he knows Laura is a person, not the family pet). Reuben volunteered to pray for lunch last week, and has often talks about "God-Jesus" in the midst of whatever. For instance, the other day he had watched an animal show about tortoises. Afterward he explained to me that the Mama tortoises pee eggs, and that's where the baby tortoises come from, because God-Jesus loves the tortoises SO much! I was trying so hard not to laugh I didn't even bother trying to clairfy how egg laying works right that moment. Reuben loves dinosaurs, trains, cars, and last night he decided to be an astronaut when he grows up.

Anna is *so* much trouble, but mostly because she always wants to be helping or doing something "real". She would rather be "washing dishes" than playing with toys. Usually makes for quite a bit more mess, but I know I'll be very grateful for that personality trait as she grows up and gains the motor skills necessary to help without creating more of a mess than she started with. I've begun letting them "clean the windows" with vinegar water and a rag, and even mop the floor - which is really scarry, but they love it, and when it's all done the floor is usually cleaner than when we started. She has a very sweet little heart, is very smart, and loves to wear pretty dresses. She knows most of her shapes, can count to ten more or less, and is fascinated with learning letters, though I'm not sure how much she really understands yet.

Laura had her first birthday January 23. She stands quite frequently, but shows little progress toward walking, which now puts her a month behind both Reuben & Anna on that skill set. I can't wait for her to figure that out so she can actually keep up with them. She loves crawling after them when they get to running around, but she's only about half their speed on hands and knees. Laura is a pretty happy kid, people are often incredulous when I tell them she rarely stopped screaming for the first six months of her life. She adores her Daddy, thinks Reuben is the bomb, and already enjoys playing girl stuff with Anna. Laura is already pretty good at helping pick up toys, which is super cool. Of course, as soon as she's done putting them in the bucket, she starts trying to take them back out again, but it's a good step in the right direction.

Jeremy's Mom's Suprise 50th Birthday Party (in October)

The girl cousins: Katie, Madi, & Joanna

It was a 60's theme party, and this was the "costume" Jeremy chose

Jeremy got to do a presentation table for Property Image Solutions LLC at a local Chamber of Commerce event.

Our very first snow - the kids were SUPER excieted!

This is Piper, Uncle Michael & Aunt Katie's dog. Reuben & Anna weren't too sure about him for awhile, but they've become pretty good friends.

Our best attempt at family pictures

We had the cousins over one day just for fun while Aunt Shawna ran some errands. This is ALL of us making...pumpkin bread I think.

Anna & Grandpa

Most of the cousins, snuggled on Grandma's bed watching a movie

Cole & Laura are pretty good buddies. Of course, most of their interaction at this age invovles grinning at eachother and trading pacifiers.

Must have been her first pickle...

Me & Reuben @ the Annual Minter Family Christmas Tree Decorating Party

Have I mentioned my kids LOVE snakes. They think they're so cool...definitely not genetic.

Reuben & Anna really enjoyed decorating Grandma's tree this year

Christmas Eve at bedtime - a tin of popcorn and some kind of Christmas cartoon.

Christmas Morning

At this point they're still just catching on to what the whole stocking thing is all about

Reuben declared these "The Best Books EVER!"

The cute little christmas dress that only fit long enough to take a picture

This is us, after unburrying the car, loading a weeks worth of laundry and everything we would need for a day, suiting up three kids for snow and getting them down the stairs and safely secured in their carseats. It was a memorable event, so I took a picture.

Same day, when we got to Grandma's house they Minter men were still shoveling out the driveway, and my kids were super excieted to help. Or at least try.

It didn't take long before Reuben gave up the shovel and starting tossing snowballs at the shovelers, while Anna remained determined to do her part.

Laura at her 1st birthday party

Didn't even remotely figure out the candle blowing thing

Reuben was desperate to play in the snow one day, but I didn't want to get us all suited up so we could go out side and supervise, so I brought the snow to him. I piled up a half dozen bucket fulls in the shower, and had a grand time.

This is our counting game, consisting of a bunch of decorating rocks and egg cartons cut up into units of 1 - 10.

This is Reuben with his "lizard wings". He watched an animal show about a gliding lizard and was quite fascinated. For weeks he and his "wings" were almost inseperable.

I made Reuben and Anna each a dolphin with our homemade playdough, which they thought was pretty intensely cool.

For Christmas Jeremy's family gave us a year membership to the Mystic Seaport Museum. This was our first visit...very cold.
